Hello and welcome to the blog. After resisting for quite a few years, we've decided to begin a blog. People are asking what we've been working on lately and this is a great place to view some of our recent activities. If we've not yet been acquainted, hi I'm Bodie, the nucleus of Pemberley Photographics and I'm quite pleased you're here. So how does one begin writing a blog? Perhaps it's similar to starting a novel from scratch, add a healthy dose of inspiration and commence writing from there. Well then, lets start with the inspiration for the header image on this page and then move on to the inspiration behind the company.
Under deep autumn skies heavy with rain, I captured that image of Biltmore on a magnificent morning late last October. If you're from the States, you'll undoubtedly recognize the image. Those from other countries may wonder it's location and I'll get to that in a moment. So what is it about Biltmore that's so inspiring? After travelling the globe in search of some of the best architectural and landscape treasures the world has to offer, there are few places that rival the magic of Biltmore Estate, George Washington Vanderbilt’s home in the mountains of Asheville, NC. That sounds a little like an ad, but it's not, I truly love Biltmore for the breathtaking treasure that it is. Other than the Mansions of Newport, there are scarcely few to rival the splendor, and certainly none as perfectly preserved an architectural masterpiece as Biltmore Estate. In fact Biltmore has two unique distinctions over all other U.S. and most European estates. First, at over 175,000 sq/ft it is the largest privately owned home in the United States, and second, it is one of the only properties still owned by descendants of the original family. Yes, there are plenty of estates in Europe that rival the scope and ambition of Biltmore, I've visited many of them in fact. Unfortunately, nearly none have remained untouched by the ravages of war or politics, and fewer still remain in the hands of descendants of the original families. As such, most are missing some or all of their precious original collections and furnishings. Over the years, I've found much inspiration strolling the house and grounds of Biltmore. Credit and compliment to Richard Morris Hunt and Frederick Law Olmstead for creating the timeless architectural treasure Biltmore is today.
While there are narrowly few properties in the States that can transport you to the magic of Jane Austens’ time like Biltmore Estate, through architectural derivatives, we arrive at the true inspiration behind Pemberley Photographics. In the scintillating style and aristocratic tradition of Jane Austen, Pemberley Photographics was founded on the simple idea that a wedding should be an inspired romantic interlude, a temporary reprieve from reality to live a fairytale dream for a day. If you're unfamiliar with the novels of Jane Austen, her unmistakable verse paints a lush landscape of written artistry. Pemberley is the estate owned by Mr. Darcy from Austen's literary master work Pride and Prejudice. Since my primary talents and creativity are outside the literary realm, Pemberley Photographics was founded as a creative outlet. An inspired pursuit of eternal photographs to reveal love stories in the unparalleled visual artistry of light, shadow, and expression. There are few days in a lifetime that carry the importance of a wedding day and there is only one chance to get it right. Only one chance to capture the subtle laugh, the joyful tears, or that cherished emotional moment as it unfolds on wedding day.
